Guinea Pigs Gone to the Rainbow Bridge |
|
|
It is said that when we lose a friend, there is a new star in the sky
at night. On these cold, bleak Winter nights I look up, and through my
tears I see the stars of a constellation twinkling in the sky. I hope
your spirits run free, dashing and playing in meadows of sweet timothy
grass, with cool waters to sip and sweet fruits to nibble and play with.
May you have places to explore, treats beyond measure, and cardboard to
nibble. To all our gentle beloved piggies, we will always love you.
- T. Green, 1996
MuffinMuffin was a great pet-she loved vegetables and squeaked excitedly when you walked into the room. She was much beloved by her owner, Emily.

AprilThis is for my sweet piggly, April. April was my first guinea pig. I found her at a local petstore in Aurora, and instantly fell in love with her. My mom was the first to hold her. We read books, magazines, and even websites, and I guess we didn't know quite enough about guinea pigs. In the summer of 2006, after moving, April developed pneumonia, and we didn't hand feed her when we noticed she wasn't eating. So we took her to the vet, and we had to syringe feed her Critical Care mixed with smashed Pumpkin (that is why one of her nicknames is Pumpkin), and some medicine that was supposed to be flavored like Tooty Fruity (and it smelled like it too). She got well again, and she was the happiest piggly ever.....and I guess I never noticed that she wasn't going to the bathroom like a normal piggly- her poo wasn't the same as a healthy pig would be like-size, shape, anything. So one day (February 3rd), I had my friend named Kelly over, and she told me that my room smelled like her. The next day, I checked April out and she had diarrhea and wouldn't get up-even if she did she didn't want to. So I washed her off and she died that night. I am 99 percent positive she died of a GI Tract problem. I will always love her.

Kitty, Ill miss your sweet, curious, spunky personality. Your pops were such a delight, and the crazy red-ear wheeks. When I adopted you I never expected you and your sister to become such an important part of my life and our friends lives. I cant believe you passed away so quickly. Three years wasnt nearly long enough to have you around.
I hope that youre somewhere with lots of yummy green grass, water, and treats. I miss you, my sweet girl.

RufusYou were my first piglet (maybe why I loved you so much!!) and a present to me from daddy honestly the greatest present I've ever received you were perfect!! All black, soft, smooth, shiny and beautiful in EVERY way you were always making me smile, always making me happy, and always making me proud to me your mommy. You were a handsome little chap, and your personality and character would never go unnoticed when you were in the room even though you were sometimes a little grump, I think this just made us love you more!!
The way you would 'oink oink' whenever we came through the front door,
your way of saying 'hello', or 'oink oink' when the fridge was opened,
'feed me please!!', the way you would cuddle up in your favourite spots,
stretch out, yawn and fall asleep (especially on your favourite fluffy
cushion!!), the way you loved having your cheeks and ears tickled, and
the way floor time made you so happy
you'd easily wear yourself
out from jumping around to much (well except the times you were feeling
lazy and would just jump straight back into your house!!)
just
a few of the special things we're going to miss about you and never
forget.
The day you became poorly was hard to face, because I think we knew
deep down that you weren't going to recover
although I know you
tried & fought for breath right up until the end where you slipped
away in our arms on your favourite cushion. Watching the sparkle in
your eyes disappear was heartbreaking, I didn't want to let you go
especially
not just two days after your 1st birthday.
We did everything we could to save you
&always everything we
could to make sure you were living a happy, special little life. There's
so many memories that we share about you
they will always be remembered.
Our little piglet who was so special
we love you
and miss
you even more.
Thinking about you always
love mommy & daddy
'oink oink!!' xxxxxx

Spazz
The day before Super bowl we got 2 happy guinea pigs. Squeakers and Flatop. Then another day we got one more Ginger pie aka GP and then we just couldn't resist Getting her adorable sister, Spazz. We had all of them for about 3 weeks.
Then one day coming home form shopping on a Sunday we knew something was wrong with Spazz. He was holding very still, wouldn't eat and made frightful squeaks, we called trying to find a emergency hospital for guinea pigs when we found one, she was already gone, what upset us the most is that we didn't know what caused her death, but know we know because Squeakers is now sick, she is at the vet right now with pneumonia, now were just afraid that the other 2 will get it
We miss you Spazz, we miss you're squeaking, pop corning, and racing around.
And for Squeakers hold in there
(picture in order from left to right) Squeakers, Flatop, Spazz (our little ginger pie is not in this picture)

Brocky
May 2002 - May 2007
Today our dear little Brocky passed away after being poorly for a couple of weeks. He stopped eating and the vet found that his back teeth were badly overgrown, so he had an operation to have them trimmed down. Unfortunately he still had problems taking his food afterwards and eventually stopped eating altogether. We tried everything and fed him some prescribed food mixtures, but he never fully recovered and passed away peacefully in his sleep early on the morning of the 14th of May. I suppose his age was also against him.
Brocky was a delightful little Dutch piggie, with grey and white colouring. He was very gentle, loving, kept himself immaculately clean and loved nothing better than to curl up in his blanket on the sofa while we watched TV, especially in his later years. We will miss the little chap dearly, but at least it is comforting to know that he will now be reunited with his friend Oliver (who could be a bit bossy!) on the Rainbow Bridge, who passed away a while ago. They were litter pals, who we had from babies in 2002.
Lots of Love for ever,
Paul and Jill

SQUIRT
2001 - May 7, 2007
Squirt was a handsome feisty pig. He was a fighter and a survivor. Our Squirt lived six years and in those six years he endured five surgeries. Three for gallstones which had to be removed, and were the size of peanuts (he had passed a couple of little ones on his own), one for removing a tumor in his teet, and the last surgery he had on May 7th 2007 was to cut back his molars and he had to be put under in order to do that so the vet could get back in his mouth. He couldn't eat because they were too big. Squirt did make it through the surgery, though a few hours later He passed away. He had also jumped off my lap by being startled and had his front teeth knocked out twice from jumping on the floor. I had to grind his carrots up for him and put them in a bowl so he could eat without front teeth. It was one of the times I knew he wouldn't try to bite me. :)
Squirt used to tug and pull at my shirt if I were holding him and he had to go to the bathroom. He was a sweetheart. He was very unique and we loved him so much and he managed to live six long years having had so much trouble. Once we made a Christmas card with Squirt on the front in a little Christmas box with a Santa hat on. We have lots of great memories of Squirt. One time my husband and I were fussing with each other and being loud in the same room where Squirt was and all of a sudden he starts saying...WEET WEET WEET, as loud as he could and we both stopped and laughed. I'm sure he was telling us to shut up.
He was a trooper and we will miss him something terrible, but we are also glad that he no longer has to suffer from any more physical problems. When I first bought him, I told my husband that he wouldn't cost anything but just feeding him. haha. He turned into a $3000.00 guinea pig but having him in our lives was priceless. He had the will to survive and we were going the distance with him. At least I feel like we tried to do for him all we could.
Well Love you Squirt. We will always love you and you have a special place in our hearts.
We buried Squirt in our back yard on 5/7/2007.
We hope you're running around in a field somewhere having all the carrots, parsley, and romaine lettuce you can stand. Remember that you were cared and loved for very much, little man.
Love,
Tonia & Chad
Ozzie
March 17, 2007 - May 8, 2007
My dear baby Ozzie - you were in my life only a short while, but your wonderful spirit will live on until the end of time.
It was through fate that I first saw you, cowering in a corner in the pet store. I wasn't planning to buy a cagemate for my already existent guinea pig just yet; I was already in contact with a breeder, and was deciding on the breed I wanted. But I walked into the Pet Store on April 18, only to buy guinea pig food and hay, but you caught my eye. So, that day I walked out of the store with more that hay and pellets. I walked out with a friend.
You had my heart from the beginning. You stole Stanley(my other guinea pig)'s heart as well - and all of his carrots!
It broke my heart to see you sick with pneumonia. It brought me to tears just watching you struggle to breathe. You were prayed for by all who knew you. At the Vet Clinic, all the staff crowded around the examination table, fawning over "the adowable wittle piggie in woom one". You had everyone's hearts wrapped around your tiny paw. No one will ever forget you.
I cried for hours after you passed over the bridge. I will never forget you. No one will.
I love you, my little baby boy.
I will always love you.

Billy
June 2004 June 2007
On Saturday the 2nd June 2007, our dear little boy Billy passed away after only becoming poorly on Thursday. He started to reject his food and was having difficulty breathing. Despite everyones best efforts, there was no sign of any improvement and he slipped away peacefully on Saturday morning.
Billy was very special because soon after we had him when he was just 6 weeks old, we noticed that his breathing was always very deep and he tended to snort a lot. After investigation by the Vet, it turned out that he had a much enlarged heart, which had distorted his windpipe so he had to adjust his breathing accordingly. This was something he was obviously born with and he was on medication for most of his life to keep his lungs clear. He coped fantastically well with his condition and it never caused him any distress. Billy was a very placid, friendly little piggie with black with ginger markings, and although somewhat of a lazy boy, he did love to popcorn and run around the hall when it suited him. He also loved to sit with us on his blanket for hours on end. Well when I say sit, I actually mean lie down on his side with his legs out ! Of all the guinea pigs we have had, I think Billy had the biggest appetite, seemingly never turning away any opportunity for more food.
We will miss the little chap dearly, but know he has joined up with his pals on the Rainbow Bridge.
Lots of Love
Paul and Jill

HENRY
3 1/2 YEARS OLD DIED 4TH JUNE, 2007
Our precious little man resting peacefully - may you run free with all the other piggies and wiggle your little bum in glee.We loved you so much Henry and we will always miss you. You came to us from a sad background and we took you in and gave you so much love - we will miss your little nose at the bars and your wheeking when you knew breakfast and dinner were coming. You loved your parsley and corn husks and didn't mind cucumber either :-) You were one of a kind and loved us so loyally back.
We tried our best for you but sadly it was not to be. We are sorry Henry :-)
You will always be in our hearts and we hope there is a better life for you over the Rainbow Bride.
We love you baby - rest eternally
